Zara Larsson is a proud member of the Bey Hive. The Swedish pop singer's obsession with Beyoncé began when she was six years old and flourished as she grew up with Dangerously in Love and B'Day on repeat. But the 18-year-old (who turns 19 in two weeks) is on her way to mega-stardom herself, and she's not afraid to admit that she hopes her career mimics her idol's. "Really, what I'm looking at is getting to Beyoncé level, that's my dream you know," she said. Larsson's already off to a good start—she brought things full circle when she opened for Beyoncé's Formation World Tour in London this summer.

Zara Larsson , however, has been in the spotlight for much longer than that. At the age of 10, she won the Swedish talent competition Talang Sverige (it's the ...Got Talent equivalent) and became a national sensation. She's released an album and three EPs since then, but she only broke out in the U.S. in 2015, when her singles "Lush Life" and "Never Forget You" with MNEK drew attention. They, like her current hit "Aint My Fault," are radio-friendly-pop with an obvious dance influence, a result of the strong EDM presence in Europe, especially in Sweden.
While some big stars might be reluctant to open up on social media, Larsson remains unabashedly candid with a spry sense of humor. Amidst the memes, angel-faced selfies and enviable #OOTDs on her Instagram, she's also quick to call out sexist and racist comments, and she speaks her mind with personal blog posts. "It should be a no-brainer to speak up about stuff and have a voice," the teen said. Outspokenness for Larsson transcends politics; it also applies to her music. She doesn't hesitate to admit that she doesn't write all of her songs, or that she didn't even like some of the ones she's sung—but that honestly and self-awareness is what makes this starlet so likable, so real.
Below, the rising superstar talks her career, her next album and, of course, Beyoncé.
